and for the caesura! (The "hold" and the "break," respectively, and so important to expressiveness in vocal music in particular.)
God, I miss singing and I miss chorale conducting. Gotta do something about that.

but if you are interested, in the US, even small towns have opportunities for musicians -- volunteering in schools, and local orchestras -- here we have a community chorus, a local orchestra, and lots and lots (and lots) of churches, some with some pretty serious choirs.

of forming some kind of local chorus with the president of the art circle. Given how frequently the ladies I "do art" with spontaneously burst into song (everything is a song cue here in France, just as with me in the U.S.), she thinks it could fly. When we move into our little house in the village (just a few doors down from the art circle), I'll be bringing my piano... so we shall see.

in....damn my memory....a country in Latin America. Made up of kids from low ses. It was tear-jerking inspiring. Why can't we do something like that here in the good old USA? Oh wait, we cut music programs--music might interfere with studying for NCLB tests :-(

as a kid. I sang my way through school, in choirs, lead in a trio, and in a Lutheran choir. I missed my musical involvement most of all when I had to give up a selection to the Portland Symphonic Choir, as I left Portland to marry the Idaho rancher.
I think, therefore I am. I think. Yup. Back to original signature. Thanks a lot, JRE.

20 km (14 miles) away, is thought of as "pas terrible." If you translate "pas terrible" literally, you'd think it would mean "not terrible" (as in "not so bad"). In fact, it means "not very good," for reasons that I have ceased trying to wrap my foreign brain around.
The closest "good" local choir is about 30 km (20 miles) away. It's a question of fuel + time + commitment vs. inertia + conservation (etc.). What I really need to do is just sit down and play & sing on a more regular basis. (I write this with my piano right in front of me and making me feel guilty.)
